Introduction

We have designed and constructed a set of display stands for Rainman dealers to utilise at boat shows and trade shows. It consists of two displays:

  1. Naked PSU / RO system mounted on a panel with a Control Panel and Autoflush Assembly. The system displays are part of the package as they are mounted and non-functional.
  2. Cased portable system display for displaying stock items. It is recommended to use an AC PSU and High Output RO unit opened on the shelf. The RO unit is wider than the display stand so will overhang to the side.

Significant effort was expended in making the stands portable, light, strong, and easy to set up. The heavy nature of watermakers limits how light weight they can be made.

This manual is to provide instructions on how to assemble and use the displays.

Display Stands

General – Two stands exist are included in the box.

  1. A wide stand with a high front shelf. This is ideal for displaying an AC cased PSU on the rear top shelf and an open High Output RO unit on the front lower shelf. The image on the front is a schematic of a portable cased Rainman.
  2. A narrower stand with a lower front shelf. This is designed to hold the Naked PSU/RO unit on the front lower shelf and the Control Panel on the rear top shelf. The Autoflush Assembly can hang on the side of the display. The image on the front is a schematic for an installed Naked Rainman

Unpacking the displays.

  1. The display stands come in a reusable flat pack box. Inside are four levels of packing. A sheet of corflute separates each layer.

The top level includes one of the main hinged display assemblies folded up. It also includes a piece of foam.

  1. The second layer holds two shelves and the bracing panel that matches the hinged display assembly above. It also includes a piece of foam.
  1. The third layer holds two shelves and the bracing panel that matches the hinged display assembly on the bottom layer. It also includes a piece of foam.
  1. The bottom layer includes the second hinged display assembly, four bracing poles, and a tool bag..
  1. Each hinged display assembly has two panels that fold over each other. One of the hinges is offset so the three panels lay flat on each other.

It is important to fold correctly in the repacking process so the three panels are flat on each other.

Setting Up Displays

  1. Unfold the hinged display assembly.
  1. The bracing panels and poles are colour codeed red or blue to make it easy to know which bracing parts go withj each hinged display assembly.
  1. The bracing pole has a screw in it. Remove the screw, hold the lower bracing pole in place between the sides of the hinged display assembly and reinstall the screw through the sides.
  1. Insert the bracing panel into the slots on the sides of the hinged display assembly.
  1. Ensure the bracing panel is slotted fully into the bottom bracing pole and that the arrows line up with the sides of the hinged display assembly panels.
  1. Install the top bracing pole between the sides of the hinged display assembly using the included screws.
  1. The rear top shelf has four holes on the bottom to match four vertical pegs on the display. Position the holes over the pegs and set the shelf into place.
  1. The front bottom shelf only has two holes and pegs in the front, with no holes or pegs in the back section of the shelf. Place the shelf into position by aligning the two holes and pegs.

Naked PSU / RO Display

  1. The Naked PSU / RO unit is a preconfigured set for display purposes only. The motor internals, pump internals, and membranes are removed to minimise weight. Although the Compact RO is very rarely sold in the Naked configuration, the display size is very convenient and is easily explained that the membranes would actually be the same length as the High Output in the case on the neighbouring display.

The box has room for the Autoflush assembly in front of the membranes. Remove the autoflush box first.

  1. Once the Autoflush box is removed, the PSU / RO display unit is ready to be lifted from the box.
  1. The entire unit is fixed onto an aluminium back plate. It can be lifted by the white pressure vessels. Two person lift is recommended.

Control Panel

  1. The control panel display is in a separate box. Note the items for the repacking procedure.
    – Trapezoid packed around the control panel.
    – Three sided protective cover over the top.
    – Triangular spacer in front.
  1. Set the PSU / RO display on the front lower shelf and the Control Panel Display on the rear top shelf of the stand. This will keep the centre of gravity low for stability and put the Control Panel at near shoulder height.
  1. The Control Panel back box is slightly modified so you can easily removed it to show customers the internals.
  1. A small DC power supply is included for additional effect on the display. Plug the power supply in together if you can organise power under the stand.
  1. Plug in the red Duetsch plug from the Control Panel to the Autoflush timer. The cable can be wrapped underneath the display.
  1. The green relay Duetsch plug is not used for display purposes and is left orphaned.

Autoflush Assembly

  1. The Autoflush Assembly is mounted on a panel and hangs on the side of the main display. (Production version was not available at time of these photos, so cardboard prototype was used).

Operation

While the system obviously can not fully operate at a boat show, some of the electronics can be functional. The main thing that can be demonstrated is the Autoflush timer functionality in conjunction with the control panel.

When you turn the Control Panel switch to “ON”, the water quality LED will illuminate red.

When you turn the Control Panel from “ON” to “AUTOFLUSH”, you will see the LED on the panel and the timer go through a timer cycle after the  usual 15 second delay. You will hear the autoflush valve open at the start of the process. After the autoflush cycle, it will go into the seven day timer sequence.

You can also demonstrate programming of the Autoflush timer.

Repacking Displays

The displays can be disassembled and repacked by reversing the above instructions.
