Overview
Our framed watermaker systems are designed for those customers wanting an easier installation and have sufficient space to fit the entire system into a single location. It’s a strong option for larger vessels. Four different options are powered by AC electric or 48VDC and have outputs between 100 and 240 litres per hour (26 to 63 gallons per hour).
Although the framed systems look different than other Rainman watermakers, internally, they are similar. They utilise the design simplicity found in all Rainman systems. A single motor with a through shaft to drive both the lift pump and high pressure pump.
Most framed systems are sold in our fully automated configuration, but are also available with manual controls and autoflush.
They are intended to either be plumbed into your boat or used for land based applications.
Multiple Power and Output Options
Frame AC 240L Torrent
Torrent is Rainman’s highest output watermaker and is a great option for those customers on larger vessels that require substantial amounts of fresh water and have more power available.
Incorporating three 2.5″ x 40″ seawater membranes, Torrent makes 180 – 240 litres per hour (48 – 63 gallons per hour).
Torrent has a larger 2.2/2.5 HP motor than our other AC systems. It can be wired for either 230VAC or 115VAC. Running on 2450 watts steady state at 50Hz or 2800 watts at 60Hz, we recommend a good quality 8kW generator to start and run the system.
Frame AC 140L
This framed version of our most popular AC system has 2 x 40″ membranes and makes 100 to 140 litres per hour (26-37 gallons per hour). This high output watermaker will operate on a 2kVA generator or inverter. Many thousands of these systems have been deployed around the world in either portable, modular installed, or this framed configuration.
This system has the same physical footprint as the Frame AC 240 Torrent above, but uses less power and makes less water.
Frame AC 100L
If you have limited width for your installation footprint, this system still provides reasonably high output using three 2.5″ x 21″ seawater membranes. It makes 75 to 100 litres per hour (20 – 27 gallons per hour) utilising a 2kVA generator or inverter.
It utilises the same frame, pumps and motor as the Frame AC 140 above, but with shorter membranes.
Frame 48VDC 140L
For electrified boats operating on 48VDC, this option provides a high output option running off your batteries. Utilising 2 x 40″ RO membranes and a brushless DC motor, it draws 1,250 watts.
This system has the same physical footprint as the Frame AC 240L Torrent and Frame AC 140L above.
Framed Watermaker Options
Any of these systems are available in either fully automated or manual control.

Easy Installation
Rainman Framed watermakers have much of their plumbing and electrical connection internal to the unit. This means the installation process is simpler with fewer mounting points into your vessel.
View the framed installation manual for more details.
Flexible Configuration
Most customers will enjoy the convenience of these systems being totally mounted in the frame. The membranes can be mounted on the rear or top of the frame. They can also be shifted side to side if required.
If you have footprint issues and prefer the frame over a modular configuration, the membranes can be mounted remotely. The control panel and prefilters can also be removed and mounted remotely if desired. Note that mounting the components remotely will require you to get appropriate extension hoses as required.
If using the system on land, a 12-24VDC supply is required to power the electronics and a house pump is required for autoflush operations.
Two Control Options
Any of the Framed configurations come standard with one of our integrated control panels. Most customers of the framed family of watermakers will benefit from the fully automated control panel, while some may still prefer the manual control option with autoflush functionality.
Fully Automated
The most popular option for our framed systems, the fully auto system incorporates significant convenience features while ensuring maximum reliability.
- Wired remote micropanel for full control at your nav station.
- Bluetooth connect phone app (iOS or Android)
- Timer function or set litres to be made
- Full pressure control
- Water diversion sending only good water to tank
- Manual backup in rare case of any sensor or electronics issue
Manual Control
The manual control option provides a convenient interface for your Rainman framed watermaker. It’s a highly presentable and functional component that will enhance your Rainman user experience.
While being manually controlled, some electronics convenience features assist in system operations.
- Autoflush function triggers flush cycle after powering the watermaker off and every seven days thereafter
- Built in tri-colour LED salinity sensor indicates when water is good to route to your tank
Differences To Other AC Rainman Systems
The two smaller AC framed systems (100L and 140L) are the same motor/pump configuration as our other AC portable and modular systems, but the larger one (240L Torrent) uses a larger pump/motor assembly to achieve greater flow rates.
The 48VDC system utilises identical pump/motor assembly as the Modular or Portable units.
The main difference from the modular systems are that the framed units keep much of the plumbing internal to the system. The main control panels are part of the unit, so no flush mounting or control panel box mount is required.
Spares and Consumables
Your new Rainman system will arrive with enough spares and consumables to keep you going for a while, so most customers do not need to order more with initial purchase. There are a variety of items you will need over time to keep your system running for many years.
