Overview
For those customers on larger vessels, or people that simply require more water, the Rainman Torrent watermaker is a good option. Making up to 230 litres per hour (60 gallons), the Torrent is the largest Rainman system available.
Torrent retains the design simplicity found in our other watermakers. To ensure maximum reliability, the system is manually controlled, with electronics only used for autoflush function and salinity indication.
Framed or Modular
Torrent is designed to either be plumbed into your boat or used on land. For either of those applications, the system can be configured either as single framed unit or separated into smaller components.
The system can be configured with the three membrane rack mounted on the rear or top of the unit to provide maximum flexibility on dimensions. The membrane rack can also be shifted to one side or the other if required. The control panel can be removed for remote mounting. Prefilter and autoflush filter can also be located remotely for even more flexibility.
Torrent allows for simple one box install or a geometrically flexible separation of key components for tighter spaces.
Power
Rainman Torrent has a motor that can be wired for either 230VAC or 115VAC. Running on 2450 watts steady state at 50Hz or 2800 watts at 60Hz, we recommend a good quality 8kW generator to start and run the system.
To maintain simplicity, Torrent’s design is similar to our traditional electric systems where it incorporates a single motor with both a low pressure lift pump and high pressure pump attached on either end of the shaft.
Differences to Other AC Rainman Systems
Although the Torrent incorporates the single motor, two pump design that Rainman is known for, there are a number of points of difference from the more common Rainman AC High Output watermaker.
- Up to 230 lph (60 gph) instead of 140 lph (37 gph)
- Higher power consumption
- 3 RO membranes instead of 2
- 2 prefilters instead of 1
- Higher flow rate from HP pump
- Larger pressure supply unit (motor, lift pump, and HP pump)
- Framed version available instead of cased portable option.
- Control Panel and Autoflush are not options, but incorporated into the base system configuration
- All fittings and hoses are larger to accomodate increased flow rates
Specifications
The Rainman Torrent can be purchased either in a framed system or modular configuration. Control Panel
The included control panel provides a remote management capability for your Rainman Torrent watermaker. It’s a highly presentable and functional component that will enhance your Rainman user experience.
It is an injection moulded ASA acrylic panel that remains true to Rainman’s reputation of elegant simplicity.
- Integration with the Rainman autoflush system, triggers flush cycle after powering the watermaker off.
- Built in tri-colour LED salinity sensor indicates when water is good to route to your tank.
- Can be installed in the frame, standalone with the included enclosure box, or even externally with the optional hatch.
Autoflush
Your Rainman Torrent watermaker is a very robust piece of equipment, but caring for certain aspects will prolong its life. Regularly flushing your Rainman with fresh water will maximise the life of your watermaker membranes.
The included autoflush system incorporates a solid state programmable timer that will flush your Rainman watermaker after each use and every seven days thereafter. It incorporates built in protection if your boat loses power during or between flush cycles.
Optional Accessories
While the base system will be sufficient for many customers, a number of options are available to get more out of your Rainman watermaker.
- For new installations, you may need a sea strainer. This can be purchased as an option with your Torrent configuration.
- A hydrotester will give you indication of the total dissolved solids (TDS) so you can know how your membranes are ageing.
Spares and Consumables
Your new Rainman system will arrive with enough spares and consumables to keep you going for a while, so most customers do not need to order more with initial purchase. There are a variety of items you will need over time to keep your system running for many years.
