Jasmin Causevic from Slovenia set off to sail around the world on SY Indigo, a Bavaria 33. Power on his boat is extremely limited, so even a 12VDC system would not work for his needs. However, a watermaker was a firm requirement. At the advice of Gregor at Vesselspa, the petrol (gasoline) Rainman system with the smaller compact RO membrane set is perfect for his situation.
His comments about the Rainman system.
I bought the Rainman petrol watermaker in Slovenia. The friendly Vesselspa company here impressed me with it and I now use it on my cruise around the world. I call him a magician, because he conjures up from salt water, really good quality drinking water, to which I never add any additives. I have already recommended it to many people and I know at least two sailors who bought it on my recommendation. Why? Because not everything is in the device, there is a lot in the support of the manufacturer, service and in the fact that the seller and the buyer are connected even after the purchase and outside the warranty period. When it broke down in Tahiti, they sent me a new one from the factory in five days, and I sent the old one back to him. In all these years since I’ve had it, it’s been the one and only mistake. It seems to me that this is a quality that lasts forever and also the sellers along with the factory become your eternal friends, not just when buying, as is the practice elsewhere. I recommend!
Here is a video of Jasmin using his Rainman while at anchor.
And one of it being used underway at 4 knots. (Note that it is important to ensure the intake hose stays submerged with weight or pole. Do not let air into the system)
